About us

Art Events was started over 20 years ago in Reigate by Linda Bywaters with just one workshop. Now the programme extends to one or two Saturday workshops a month with a three-week mini-course running on Wednesday afternoons. Over the years thousands of students have enjoyed the classes, some of whom have gone on to become professional artists themselves and many friendships have been forged. Students return time and time again to enjoy the experience of Art Events. The programme, published twice a year is suitable for all levels except absolute beginners covering a wide variety of subjects and using most media; oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastels, mixed media, pen and ink and gouache.

During Covid we are running classes both on Zoom and at the Betchworth Village Hall.

SATURDAY WORKSHOPS 10.30am - 4pm (Fee £48 Concession Senior Citizens and Students £45 )
These workshops are suitable for the more experienced and cover a wide variety of subjects, media and techniques . The day usually starts with a demonstration followed by exercises then a full painting in the afternoon. With the emphasis placed on individual guidance students benefit from both watching and working with the experts as well as seeing the work done in class. A materials list is sent out before each workshop and students bring their own materials and references unless provided in class.

WEDNESDAY MINI-COURSES 1.45pm- 4pm (Fee £48 Concession Senior Citizens and Students £45 )

The mini-courses run for three weeks on the same subject and are designed for those who do not wish to commit themselves over a long period but who would like to study a subject in more depth than can be covered in a couple of hours. They are suitable both for refreshers and those with some experience. Each course is complete in itself and a full painting is usually completed by the end of the course.
